Install Technician 1: Low Voltage Cabling & Equipment Installation
The Install Technician 1 is an entry-level field installation role responsible for installing low-voltage cabling, primarily CAT6 Ethernet, and mounting basic IT and security equipment.

What the job looks like
The Install Technician 1 is an entry-level field installation role responsible for installing low-voltage cabling, primarily CAT6 Ethernet, and mounting basic IT and security equipment. You'll work as part of a two-person installation crew, supporting a Tech 2 installer on job sites.
This role requires physical labor, attention to detail, and strict adherence to company safety standards and SOPs. Travel and overnight stays are required for some projects, but are not the weekly norm. The position involves frequent on-site work in commercial and residential environments and is a foundation for growth within the installation and technical services team.
What you'll do
A typical week on the job.
Cabling & installation
- Install low-voltage cabling, including:
- CAT6 Ethernet
- Composite access control cabling
- Fiber optic cabling (training provided)
- Run, terminate, label, and test cabling for:
- Network and Wi-Fi systems
- Camera systems
- Access control systems
- Mount basic equipment such as:
- Network switches and access points
- Cameras and camera mounts
- Access control panels and readers
- Racks, wall plates, and enclosures
- Make sure every cable run and termination is neat, labeled, secured, and meets company standards
Job site support & field work
- Work as part of a two-person crew under the direction of a Tech 2 installer
- Assist with installations, troubleshooting, and equipment setup
- Perform physical job site tasks, including:
- Trenching and digging for underground cable runs
- Conduit installation (underground and surface-mounted)
- Pulling cable through walls, ceilings, attics, crawl spaces, and outdoor pathways
- Follow all safety protocols, job site rules, and company SOPs
- Keep work areas clean, safe, and organized on job sites and in company vehicles
What you'll need
Required qualifications, plus the skills that give you a head start.
Technical & hands-on skills
- Experience or exposure to CAT6 cable installation (running, terminating, and testing)
- Basic understanding of low-voltage systems (training provided)
- Comfortable using hand tools, power drills, ladders, a multimeter voltage tester, and testing equipment
- Able to read and follow basic diagrams and installation instructions
Physical & environmental demands
- Comfortable working in attics, crawl spaces, and outdoor environments
- Able to dig trenches and pull cable through conduit
- Able to lift up to 75 lbs unassisted
- Able to work on ladders and elevated surfaces for extended periods
Communication & organization
- Strong teamwork and customer service mindset
- Attention to detail and willingness to follow SOPs
- Able to follow written and verbal instructions
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and web browsers
Other requirements
- Reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, and a clean driving record
- Able to travel and stay overnight as required (not a weekly norm)
- Must pass a background check and drug screening
Preferred skills & experience
- Experience with structured cabling or low-voltage installs above drop ceilings and down walls
- Experience with fiber optic cabling
- Exposure to access control systems, surveillance cameras, and network infrastructure
- Networking basics: DHCP and IP addressing
- Terminating CAT6 Ethernet cable
- Basic construction skills
Physical job requirements
- Sitting and standing for extended periods
- Light lifting of equipment and boxes (up to 50 lbs recommended, 75 lbs max)
- Occasional driving to client sites
- Working indoors at a desk and occasionally in warehouse or stock areas
